چکیده

The budget network design problem and fixed-charge network design problem imply different economic pursuits on travel cost and construction cost and structure these two cost components in different ways. A more general version of these two classic formulations is the biobjective network design problem. This article discusses an exact solution strategy for the biobjective discrete network design problem with equilibrium constraints, which eliminates the inexactness and incompleteness deficiencies pertaining to heuristics or metaheuristics presented in previous research. In particular, we adapted and justified a dichotomic solution framework for the biobjective network design problem, in which the complete solution set of the problem can be exhausted by repeatedly solving a parameterized scalar problem and updating the parameter set. A generalized Benders decomposition method, a widely used solution strategy for nonlinear mixed integer programming problems, is further implemented in the solution framework, which offers an efficient algorithmic tool for solution of the scalar problem. Numerical results obtained from the example problems justify the solution optimality, completeness, and efficiency of the presented solution method. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Optimal Capacities in Discrete Facility Location Design Problem

Network location models comprise one of the main categories of location models. These models have various applications in regional and urban planning as well as in transportation, distribution, and energy management. In a network location problem, nodes represent demand points and candidate locations to locate the facilities. If the links network is unchangeably determined, the problem will be ...

Bicriterion shortest hyperpaths in random time-dependent networks

In relevant application areas, such as transportation and telecommunications, there has recently been a growing focus on dynamic networks, where arc lengths are represented by time-dependent discrete random variables. In such networks, an optimal routing policy does not necessarily correspond to a path, but rather to an adaptive strategy. Finding an optimal strategy reduces to a shortest hyperp...

Simultaneous Decentralized Competitive Supply Chain Network Design under Oligopoly Competition

This paper discusses a problem in which  decentralized supply chains enter the market simultaneously with no existing rival chains, shape the supply chains’ networks, and set wholesale and retail prices in a noncooperative manner. All the chains produce either identical or highly substitutable products. Customer demand is elastic and price-dependent. A three-step algorithm is proposed to solve ...

Solving the bicriterion routing and scheduling problem for hazardous materials distribution

Hazardous materials routing and scheduling decisions involve the determination of the minimum cost and/or risk routes for servicing the demand of a given set of customers. This paper addresses the bicriterion routing and scheduling problem arising in hazardous materials distribution planning. Under the assumption that the cost and risk attributes of each arc of the underlying transportation net...

A decentralized multi-level leader-follower game for network design of a competitive supply chain

This paper develops a decentralized leader-follower game for network design of a competitive supply chain problem in which a new chain as the leader enters a market with one existing supply chain as a follower. Both chains produce an identical product, customer demand is inelastic and customer utility function is based on Huff gravity-based model. The leader wants to shape his network and set a...
